Uploading Images

How do I upload an image?
To upload an image, click on the yellow picture icon in the rich text editor. This will pop open our media assist box.

What are the different tabs in the media assist?
The five different tabs are Search Shopstyle, Search Getty, Upload Image,Your Images, and Your Bookmarks.

  • Search Shopstyle: Here you can choose from thousands of products available through ShopStyle. Be sure to select your filter (women, teens, living, etc.) before clicking “Go.” To learn how to monetize on these images, learn more about our ShopSense program.
  • Search Getty: With OnSugar you have free access to hundreds of thousands of  Getty Images®. Illustrate your posts with the latest celebrity and news images. Note: Due to legal reasons, if you have domain mapped your site, you will no longer have access to Getty Images®.
  • Upload Image: Here you can upload an image from your computer, or from a URL.
  • Your Images: Easy access to the images you have uploaded. Note: These images can not be managed, and are just a quick reference to our database that lists everything you have uploaded. We do not currently have a space limitation, so there is no need to delete images.
  • Your Bookmarks: Easy access to items you have created links and bookmarks for. Learn more about creating bookmarks.


Will my images be resized?
When you select an image, a “Choose” tab will present itself. Here you can select from several different size options. Note: Most themes cannot accommodate anything larger than X-Large (550).

How do I change the alignment of my image/make my text wrap around it?
When you select your image, make sure you choose your alignment. If you leave it as normal, text will not wrap. Selecting left pushes the image to the left of the wrapped text, right to the right of the text. If you select center, your image will appear above your text, and centered in your post.

How do I make my image a link?
When you are on the “Choose” tab you can set the link to None or Full. None will leave it blank, and Full will make it a link to the full-sized image. If you want to make your image a link to somewhere else, you need to add it first. Once it is added to the rich text editor, you can click on it and then click the link icon. You will then be able to add the link information.

What are the additional options for the Getty Images®?
When you select a Getty Image®, you have the option to automatically include a condensed caption or a detailed one.

What are the additional options for the ShopStyle images?
In addition to a condensed and detailed caption, you also have the option of including the sale price of the item.

What type of posts can I add images to?
You can add images to all post types except Chat and Quote.

How do I upload an image for my theme?
Read our post on creating a theme to learn more about theme images.

What is the description field under the choose tab?
When you upload an image, a description field will be visible on our media assist box. You can add a brief description of your photo to make it easier for other people to find your great images. Plus, as an added bonus, adding an image description will help your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and sites like Google and Bing find your blog.

hiya nymphette - each theme has its own styling. some of them have borders, some don't. you can copy the theme you like and change it in the css if needed.

Is there a way to rotate the photos? my photos in portrait format got automatically landscaped and so the pictures are all facing the other way. There's no way to paste portrait format photos here?

The image pulls in directly from your computer, so you'd have to rotate them there first. However, if you upload into a gallery post (click on the gallery tab), you'll be able to rotate the image before adding it to a gallery. hope that helps!

you can use the gallery type post to upload more than one image at a time.

If you didn't want to create a gallery post, you can use it upload the images. Once the images are uploaded, you can start a different post and the images will appear in the "Your Images" tab.

hihi under gallery how do i upload a few images at one go just like how blogger does? and how do i get rid of pictures i've uploaded before? thanks

@caderina - you need to make a gallery post in order to upload multiple images. the Your images tab can't be edited, it's just a quick reference of things you've uploaded. we currently don't have space limitations, so there's no need to delete the ones you've already uploaded.

Hi. If i want to delete the pictures i've uploaded at the "Your Images" How can i do so?
Cos i find it a little messy. All the pictures have been messed up.

Can you delete pictures that you have uploaded and them still show in your galleries and posts?

hi folks, at this time there is not a way to manage the Your Images tab. Consider it just a quick way to look at what you have uploaded, sort of a reference guide to our database. We currently do not have a space limitation, so there is no need to delete the images.

When I click on the "Insert Image" button it doesn't do anything (no screen movement or anything). I've updated everything and I'm using Windows 7. Any suggestions?

I'm having a problem with the "Insert Image" button. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When I click on it, it doesn't do anything...neither does the "Add Images" link. Can you tell me what's happening? I've sent an email to onsugarhelp@sugarinc.com. How long does it take for someone to get back to me?

do you have domain framing on? When this happens, your url takes over the address bar and doesn't ever change. If this is the case it is overriding our image popup. Think of them as nested box. Your domain is holding your onsugar blog inside of a box. When you try to use the image tool, it's popping open inside the box and you can't see it.

Someone from help should have gotten back to you, please let me know if they haven't.

@krissy90220 - sorry i didn't respond sooner, i completely missed your comment! i hope you were taken care of a long time ago!

I'm trying to upload an image to a 'new post.' I select an image that I've downloaded on my computer (I use a Mac) to iPhoto. The icon of the photo I chose comes up as selected but when I click the 'upload' button, nothing happens. What do I do?

@ laurajohn, what type of post (i.e. text, gallery, etc.)? Also, are you able to upload your image using the "classic uploader" instead? Please try another browser and let me know if the same issue occurs for you.

I'm trying to upload some images into my gallery but i'm unable to. it does not allow me to upload mutiple images, i can only upload 1 at a time & does not allow me to rotate my pictures too! what do i do? Smiling Thanks!

how do I center images of looks pasted from Shopstyle using the BlogIt widget? Also the powered by Shopstyle logo never renders correctly when I paste the code?

@ Christina-K, what version of your browser are you using? Once you have clicked the "Blog It" feature, you can select your image size and image placement. You will then have an embed code to use for your blog post. Select the code, make sure your blog post is set to "RAW HTML" and drop the code in there. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if any other issues come up.

@ p a t r i c i a, thanks for your feedback but don't worry, you will not run out of space with your images via our directory. This is just how we store all the images and has no impact on your blogging. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

Our site (ph8magazine.onsugar.com) has ENTIRE sections that are missing; which poses a great inconvenience to both our writers and readers. I've sent an e-mail and haven't received any follow up. All of our posts are (and have always been) properly labeled with the appropriate category.
Please advise, as several of our teen writers are unable to view their content; in addition to having new content scheduled for submission in July that may not even be visible due to this technical issue.

Dear Onsugar,

I've been having problems with onsugar lately. Last month, I couldn't edit or move any of my widgets and pages. I've sent emails and written feedbacks but was given no response. Then they started working fine so I didn't probe the problems. But it happened again today, and worse. Now I can't even upload images to my posts.

Initially I thought it was my computer or safari problem, so I tried editing on other computers, download google chrome and firefox on my own laptop. But none of them work.

I am doing online business using your website as domain and I need to update very frequently. Please reply me regarding what is wrong and fix them immediately!

Dear Community Manager,
It happens again today. I've tried shift+reload but I still can't upload images, I can't shift my pages/widgets.
This problem has happened too many times. And they only replied my email once. Then after that there wasn't any follow-ups on what is wrong.
Why is it happening so frequently?

Hi huiyan t, the issue still remains for some of our bloggers and as our engineers continue to work on this, please try clearing your cookies and cache and then go through the steps again and when you are in edit mode for a blog post, please click the shift+reload (this has worked for a few people still having problems). Lastly, please try another browser as well to see if that works (fingers crossed!). I know this is impacting your blogging experience and we are doing our best to figure out why this is still occurring. Thanks for your patience. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

@ celinebebe, what browser are you currently using? Can you please try clearing your cookies and cache, and then go through the steps again of creating a blog post. This time when you are in 'edit' mode for a post, please click SHIFT+Reload to see if this resolves the issue. If it does not, please try using another browser other than the one you are currently using and go through the same steps as listed above. Does this work for you? If you do receive any error message as well, please take a screenshot and email it to help@onsugar.com - thanks!

Hi, I have difficulties uploading photos onto my post. Once i click the insert image button, nothing actually happen. I tried switching it to raw HTML and click on the add image below. It does bring me to my image but i can't insert it onto my post as well.

HELP HELP!

is it possible to upload the pictures by selecting all or upload like 5 by 5 instead on 1 by 1?

even for the gallery it need to be upload one by one?!

@ Sleepygurl, when creating a 'gallery' type post, you have the option to select all which will grab all the photos in your folder and upload them to your post.
